Date:2024.12.11

On December 11, 2024, the 6th BDO Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Awards ceremony took place in Hong Kong, recognizing outstanding ESG performance among Hong Kong listed companies. Yuexiu Property Company Limited was awarded three awards, namely “Theme Award”, “Best in ESG Awards (Middle Market Capitalisation Category) – Certificate of Merit” and “Best in ESG Reporting Awards (Middle Market Capitalisation Category) – Certificate of Merit” at the BDO ESG Awards 2024, recognizing Yuexiu Property’s outstanding performance in ESG and carbon neutrality.

This year marks the sixth year of the global fifth-largest accounting and consulting network BDO hosting the ESG Awards, with over 110 listed companies applying for the awards, a record high in the past six years. The awards are free of entry fees, with an independent judging panel reviewing and evaluating the entries and selecting the final winners, which is highly recognized and authoritative.

This year’s Theme Award continues to recognize listed companies that exemplify best practices in carbon neutrality, highlighting the critical role that companies play in mitigating climate change and shaping a zero-carbon, greener and more climate-resilient future. This is the first time Yuexiu Property has been honored with the BDO ESG Awards’ Theme Award. Only three listed companies received this prestigious recognition, showcasing significant commendation for Yuexiu Property’s performance in carbon neutrality.

Yuexiu Property actively responds to the national “dual-carbon” strategy, and commits in its ESG Report 2023 to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 or earlier. They have also set an emission reduction target: the carbon emission intensity per unit area of public building projects and residential projects will be reduced by 44% and 23% in 2030 compared to 2019 levels, respectively. To achieve these targets, Yuexiu Property has developed the “Yuexiu Property Dual Carbon Action Plan” with three dimensions and ten action directions to reduce its carbon emissions. In 2023, the company’s GHG emission intensity per unit area decreased by 24% compared to 2019.

As a real estate development enterprise, Yuexiu Property promotes energy saving and emission reduction by vigorously advocating for green construction and systematically carries out research and practice of cutting-edge technologies such as ultra-low-energy building system, near-zero-energy building system, and zero-carbon building system, etc. In 2024, Yuexiu Property officially implemented the “Healthy House System”, creating “Healthy House” through ten major health systems such as “Joyful Air”, “Joyful Clean Water”, and “Joyful Silence”, leading the future of healthy living towards “Net Zero”. In addition to construction efforts, Yuexiu Property also promotes the culture of carbon reduction among all employees through digital technologies, and the internal ESG management system launched in 2023 not only tracks carbon emissions data, but also includes a new module called “Personal Carbon Footprint”, which calculates the real-time statistics of employees’ carbon emissions from their business travels, and encourages green mobility.

Looking ahead, Yuexiu Property will continue to uphold the company spirit of “Beyond Excellence”. Against the backdrop of the increasingly severe global climate change problem and the national goal of achieving “30|60” dual-carbon targets, Yuexiu Property will continue to focus on Yuexiu Property’s “dual-carbon” goal and “dual-carbon” action plan and carry out specific carbon reduction measures on a regular basis, so as to reduce the negative impacts of its production and operation on climate change in all dimensions, stages and lifecycles, contributing to the promotion of the green and low-carbon development of the real estate industry.
